We saw the factory, start to finish! So exciting. The lumber changed dramatically with each step. Each worker took pride in their part of the manufacturing. Hickory Chair truly creates works of art. Their furniture will be the 'antiques of tomorrow'. I have shown a few of the most interesting steps to me...The man hand carving the intricate legs and feet. Jay holding up the turned leg...made right there, in Hickory! Laura showing us how inlay is done. The girls making the finishes, truly, one-of-a-kind! Hand-done tufting. showing the skirts being made. the beautiful butterfly corners on the flange of my favorite chaise lounge. And, Me with my diploma!

Art Nouveau

I am taking a design course at the moment.

My project is to design an entire house inside out, but the hitch is, my "client" wants to have an art nouveau influence on the style and design.

I have a limitless budget! Still, harder than you may think.

No inspiration around here...wish I could travel to Belgium or Paris... :)

GDC

As of yesterday, June 1st...

Olivia Thomas is the Mount Pleasant GDC's outside sales person and designer !!!
I have been at GDC for about three years. I started in July of '06. I will continue to hold the position of assistant manager through June...which I have done for about a year and a half.After taking design at Clemson for two years, I transferred down to Charleston and I graduated with honors in Art History from College of Charleston in '04. I have also been taking Interior Design for a little over a year at our local tech school. I have completed all but my last class in Interior Design. I will start the last course in July.

I am ready to design locally, and see what opportunities may arise!!!Though my new position will be quite different, I am SO excited! I will not be in the store nearly as much.
I hope to be a client's homes and shopping locally for items I can't find at GDC.
